Airborne Toxic Event is a band that we never would have thought we would be writing about. Not that we hate them or anything, they’ve just never really grabbed us. Until now. ATE has released a song and video called “Neda” which pays tribute to Neda Agha-Soltan, the Iranian student whose murder during last year’s election protests was caught on cell-phone video and within hours became an international news story.
The song is part of the ‘I Am Neda’ campaign, an Amnesty International-sponsored project that aims to help spread awareness of human right violations in Iran. The video retells the story of Neda’s murder and brings us up to date on what has occurred in Iran since. And while musically, ATE still doesn’t do much for us – their involvement in this issue does.
