Rearview Mirror – Brian Winterman

Today’s look back on 2010 is from Throwing Starsguitarist and occasional vocalist Brian Winterman, and it is…well, it’s awesome.  I’ll just let the headline he sent in do the enticing.Brian Winterman’s Top 10 Music-Related Drunk Text Messages Sent to Jason Evans Groth in 2010

When it comes to retrospectives of the year’s best music, it’s hard to be a fair judge because music is experiential and context matters.  Something you loved in February may feel a bit worn down by December (unless it just took that long to grow on you), so it’s difficult to be objective when looking back and assigning, say, a third or fourth best.  As you may have detected from the title, this list is different.

As some of you know, I love music.  As most of you know, I occasionally get drunk.  As almost none of you know, I sometimes get drunk and text Jason Evans Groth about the music I’m listening to at that very moment.  Below you will find (verbatim, no spelling corrections, date-stamped, in order) a list of text messages that I sent in 2010…all drunk…all to Jason Evans Groth.  No sculpting, no reflection, no second-guessing.  Just one man’s drunken love for a song driving him to share it with another, which to me is the purest form of “best.”

Why 10?  Because that’s all I actually sent.  Did I sort of claim on record that Jane Wiedlin’s Rush Hour is the “bext” song ever recorded?  Yes, I did. Fuck you.  Why enchiladas?  None of your fucking business.
