Sparrow’s voice is confident and assured as he warbles the blues, sounding not like a tribute to one of the greats, but one of their peers. The playing and production are both superb and help The Bottom of the Barrel escape the pitfalls of gimmicky posturing and clumsy aping of a bygone era. Simply put, Davy Jay Sparrow and His Well-Known Famous Drovers have created a honky tonk classic whose timeliness stands it up next to the giants of the field.
