Tuesday Tip-Off: Davy Jay Sparrow and His Well-Known Famous Drovers

We’re kicking off a new segment here on Postcard Elba with an old friend with a new album.  New/old/new for those of you keeping score at home.  The Tuesday Tip-Off will be a weekly review of a new album by an artist that we think you need to know about.

Today’s Tip-Off is the new album from Davy Jay Sparrow and His Well-Known Famous DroversThe Bottom of the Barrel.

The Bottom of the Barrel is the third album from Davy Jay Sparrow and His Well-Known Famous Drovers and the most fully realized release from the honky tonk outfit.  Sparrow’s voice is confident and assured as he warbles the blues, sounding not like a tribute to one of the greats, but one of their peers.  The playing and production are both superb and help The Bottom of the Barrel escape the pitfalls of gimmicky posturing and clumsy aping of a bygone era.  Simply put, Davy Jay Sparrow and His Well-Known Famous Drovers have created a honky tonk classic whose timeliness stands it up next to the giants of the field.
