We Never Asked For This – Sheetah et les Weissmuller

We Never Asked For This is our short review of a band who thought (or their label/manager/agent/girlfriend thought) that it would be a good idea to send us an email saying “like me! like me! like me!” (more or less).

Today’s blind submission comes from France and the freakbeat garage rock revivalists Sheetah et les Weissmuller.

This e.p. of covers from the wild and swinging 60’s French garage freakbeat scene is just the perfect thing to get you through the waning hours of your humpday.  The opening track, “I Want You” is decent enough, but it’s the other three tracks that blow the doors off with the right amount of muscle to hustle ratio.  The Hammond organ that percolates through these tracks is on fire and the rest of the band answers in kind with tight and punchy rhythms and just-dirty-enough lead guitar.  Sheetah keep one foot in tradition here, while inquisitively leaning toward the more chaotic end of the genre (Murder City Devils for example), and it works for them.  Sounding a bit like The Hives older more refined French cousins, this e.p. is over far too soon, but the final three tracks are catchy enough that leaving it on repeat for a while is a suitable solution.

Check it out for yourself right here.
