This Day in Music History (Sort Of)

It was this day in 1961 that Navy Commander Alan Bartlett Shepard Jr. became the first American to go into space, aboard the Freedom 7 space capsule. The suborbital flight lasted 15 minutes and reached a height of 116 miles into the atmosphere, and was by all accounts – pretty damn sweet.  We pay tribute to this accomplishment with some equally sweet space themed videos!

This is obviously just a smattering of the many, many space themed songs out there. Feel free to post a link to your favorite in the comments.

And since we can’t find an embed-able video or audio of the Sump Pumps classic “Space Camp” (although you can hear it on their myspace page here) – here’s some equally nerdy guy doing a song on the same topic.
