Where the Bus Pass Took Us

While homebodies by nature, we do regularly muster the single malt courage to go out into the world and experience music in the flesh, and we document these excursions in Where the Bus Pass Took Us.

Today’s entry is from regular site contributor JD Short aka BassDbler and details his recent, somewhat unusual, gig that he has titled: Bringing Down the House in the House of Mouse

In typical, not your typical day at the office fashion, I recently played a show for my day job in Orlando, Florida. More specifically, I played Lake Buena Vista which is a Florida municipality controlled by The Walt Disney Company. That is correct; I played Disney World.

Though I originally thought we were slotted to play in Downtown Disney, the show ended up being on an outdoor stage set up at the Waldorf Astoria. Being on Disney property, this was a very nice affair with table seating, catering, Flaming Lips-like glow globes around for ambient lighting, a large PA, massive screens and more than a thousand screaming attendees all wearing Tron-esque glowing neck ring-y things. Oh yeah, I should also point out that the show was setup and timed so that the fireworks at EPCOT served as our backdrop.

Needless to say, I’m pretty sure the caps spent on this one performance could have purchased most of the clubs I’m used to playing… and it was nice truly to see how the other half lives. All in all, this was a great experience and a lot of fun. This was my second go at playing Disney and it is just as memorable and special… not quite sure how they do that. Magic?
