Virgil’s Beer of the Week

You may have noticed that we’re not posting much lately.  Been outside trying to get the last good days of summer under our skin.  But luckily for all of us, beer never sleeps, and our good friend Virgil Dickerson from Suburban Home Records returns with another pick for our weekly segment known so beautifully and simply as: Virgil’s Beer of the Week.

This week, Virgil brings you Denver Beer Company’s Graham Cracker Porter.

Two weeks ago, I attended the grand opening/ribbon cutting ceremony for the Denver Beer Company. Denver Beer Co was started by a friend of mine who was a brewer at the Wynkoop brewery. I’ve been getting sporadic updates throughout the past year and have been anticipating they day that they open their doors. A lot of other people were, too, as there were over 400 people there and they only had 5 people working behind the bar. I had to wait nearly 30 minutes to get a beer. When my turn finally did come up, I asked for one of every beer that they offered. They had 6 beers on tap on this particular day: Graham Cracker Porter, Stormy Summer Stout, Rye 25 Pale Ale, Confluence Pale Ale, Gear-up IPA and a Kaffir-Lime Wheat. While all the beers were delicious, I’d have to say that my favorite was their Graham Cracker Porter. As you might expect, the Porter was a bit on the sweet side which I liked very much. The porter was a lot smoother than most and some have called the beer “a campfire in a glass”. With hints of coffee and chocolate and with that extra bit of sweetness, it’s not hard to think of smores when drinking this beer. I’m really excited that Denver Beer Co is open and I plan to become a regular there. When in Denver, make sure you pay them a visit.

This Week’s Contest: You see 6 beers in the picture and in my post, there are 6 beers mentioned. Correctly match the beer name to the beers in the picture and you could win a record of your choice from Suburban Home Records. Good Luck. Send your answers to postcardeditor@gmail.com. One lucky winner will be drawn at random from the correct guesses.

If you want to send me beer for a future review, my address is 2000 Wadsworth Blvd #138, Lakewood, CO 80214.
