Mike’s ‘Mericana Monday – Bette Smith

Welcome to our new weekly segment, Mike’s ‘Mericana Mondays – where we ask roots DJ, house show organizer, Bloomington Music Expo czar and all around nice guy Mike McAfee to pick one song a week to share with the people.

Mike Says: This Willy Vlautin (Richmond Fontaine, Delines) cover closes out Bette Smith‘s new album, The Good, The Bad & The Bette. I’m a sucker for any pedal steel guitar tune, but it’s when the trumpet kicks in that this song gets me. Produced by Matt Patton (Drive-By Truckers, Dexateens), the album showcases Smith’s fabulous voice on a fine collection of soul, country, rock and blues songs. You can order your copy of the album here.
