The B-Side: Soft Streak

One of the cool things about hearing all this new music all the time, is how our brain connects the new with our storied musical consumption of days gone by. Take for example, “Never Call” by Soft Streak, a song that from first listen gave us serious Alison Moyet vibes. I mean, Soft Streak’s vocalist doesn’t sound that much like Moyet and production wise this is a far cry from Yazoo or Moyet’s solo work. But that’s what we keep coming back to. Big Moyet Vibes. Perhaps it’s the effortless vocals that give us a melody that glides and dives and rises in all the right ways or perhaps it’s that the song works in that realm of specifically hopeful longing Moyet was known for. Either way it feels as familiar and comfortable as a recently unearthed favorite oversized sweater,
