Mike’s Monday Muse – Don Antonio

Mike’s Monday Muse is where friend of the blog, roots DJ, house show organizer, Bloomington Music Expo czar and all around nice guy Mike McAfee picks one song a week to share with the people.

Batticuore is the Italian word for heartbeat. I didn’t know Don Antonio was a band (fronted by multi-instrumentalist Antonio Garmantieri) until they backed up the one and only, Alejandro Escovedo, on his record The Crossing. I thought Antonio actually was Don, but whatever…I ramble. Don Antonio are based in Modigliana, Italy and they were beyond fantastic when I saw them play with Alejandro. Antonio said this about their new record, Beautiful Season: “Beautiful Season is a song record. In Italian. The Beautiful Season is a collection of short stories. They’re not the same thing, and they don’t necessarily date. They have a clear connection, but also their autonomy.”

The B-Side: Longheads

Well this rules. “Archaos” by Longheads is five minutes of 70’s style metal filled with heavy blues riffs, doomy psychedelica, trippy vibes and shredding solos. It’s a more than worthy heir to heavy metal’s true roots and is more interesting than about 99% of all the metal bands out there today. Turn it up and take the trip.
