The B-Side: jjoey

A cascading waterfall of descending guitars grab you out of the gate on “Sinking Songs” by jjoey, and what would normally be just a flashy intro keeps going as the main hook of the verses. It’s the type of rhythmically complex but unforced feeling indie rock writing that you don’t hear often enough. Marrying the technical prowess of the mathy side of emo’s most ambitious acts with a poppier sensibility, it feels a bit like the janglier releases from Mock Orange but with its own distinct angle.
