Happy Valentine’s Day to those who observe. Most love stories involve at least some element of the push and pull between light and dark. Whether that’s within the relationship itself or two lovers versus the world, it’s the struggle that makes the bond that much greater. “There” by Josué Kinter brings all of that to the table with a song that lyrically professes no matter how bad things get (“when the sun fails, and the moon is lost…”) they will be there and their love will be there for them in kind. Musically the song is built around the telltale driving beat and dramatic male baritone vocals of a classic post-punk sound, but yet there’s the major lift on the refrain of “I’ll be there” and a downright positive bridge with cooing backing vocals and lyrics about sitting in the sunshine. Push pull, light dark, and all tied together with a distinctive synth/harpsichord lead that keeps it gothic while giving it the uplifting melody to let you know that despite lyrics like “no politics, no medicine, could save them” this is a love song.

Mike’s Monday Muse – Elephant Micah
I had the privilege of seeing Kate Long perform her gorgeous cover of Elephant Micah‘s “Dentist/Drummer” exactly twice recently and it slammed my face into an Elephant Micah rabbit hole. Vague Tidings, Globe Rush Progressions, and Where In Our Woods remain on repeat mode. Nothing is ever wrong with reminding me of Jason Molina and Will Johnson. Me digs this live video of “By The Canal” with Jason Groth on guitar .
