Wordless Wednesdays

Wordless Wednesdays is our new weekly column where we spotlight the best new instrumental tracks.

Today we share some words for those without any, mainly George Kano and his new track “Calmness.” Opening with drum flourishes and otherworldly synths, Kano skips through two or three different distinct free jazz freakouts in the span of a few seconds before landing on a chill meditative soundscapey piano piece with minimalist blips and blurps moving throughout. However, as the intro foreshadowed, nothing stays the same for long in “Calmness” as a breakbeat enters the spa vibe before the song completely transforms into a reggae influenced beat. Sound all over the place? It is. Does it still work? Somehow, yes. Yes it does. Get a sample of the first half of the song via the YouTube clip below and then check out the full piece at Apple Music.
