This week we keep everyone’s name out of our mouths with instrumental tracks from Aagtive, A Reason to Travel and Scott Wade. Slap that “read more” to check them out.

There’s a nice progression to today’s instrumental tracks and that journey begins with “Internal Happiness” from Aagtive. Warm and inviting Moog synth tones expand and envelope and feel like sinking into a perfect temperature bath. The track eschews a dedicated rhythm for the first minute and a half to create a meditative space and then wisely brings in the most bare bones of beats to add a new sense of structure without losing the vibe. A masterclass in minimalism and restraint.

Next up is “Odense” by A Reason To Travel which was composed as part of a longer suite of songs that act as the soundtrack to a shadow play in collaboration with circus artist Emma-Luna Jønsson. Layered and atmospheric guitar floats above a sparse drum loop the track is evocative and, yes, shadowy for the first 4 and a half minutes before exploding dramatically in a climactic fashion fitting for experimental theater. This is the studio version, but for the extended live performance and full theatrical presentation click here.

On the opposite end of the instrumental spectrum from our other two submissions this week is “Red with Snow” from Scott Wade. Bursting with ideas, Wade stitches together everything from crowd noise and heavily effected pop song snippets up top with trancey loops and blippity bloops and glitch beats with wandering piano and jazz horns with fleeting moments of atmospheric serenity. Sound chaotic? Well it is, but in the controlled sense. There is a lot going on here, and we mean a lot, but it all works to create a sonic journey composed of endless detours but one that still brings you somewhere special.
