Tuesday Tip-Off: Paul Bidault

“Devil Dressed In White” by Paul Bidault feels like a dusty southwestern gothic tale by way of a Parisian speakeasy. Or maybe it’s a New Orleans noir film, where the darkness is both literal and figurative. The reverbed out guitar and staggering horns bring the ambiance, but the tale hangs on Bidault’s perfectly hushed vocals. The whole thing gives us classic Murder by Death vibes, and that’s never a bad thing, but perhaps thats unavoidable when singing about the devil over twangy guitars. It is, as the kids used to say, a whole ass mood; and one you’re probably due to saunter around in for a while.
