Wordless Wednesdays

Wordless Wednesdays is our column where we spotlight the best new instrumental tracks.

Today we have all the words for brand new quality wordless* tracks by Shattered Circuits and Brent Watkins.

“Solace” by Shattered Circuits navigates the space between traditional meditative new agey soundscapes and jazz influenced post rock, and does so masterfully. There’s a feeling of “what if Pink Floyd were able to figure out a vibe that wasn’t ominous (not even a little bit)” and it’s both odd and extremely enjoyable to feel that feeling. It’s a vibe that we could’ve stayed in twice as long, which is a feeling more compositions could strive for.

*Ok, while not technically wordless, “On Patrol” by Brent Watkins eschews the verse/chorus and linear thought for a series of spoken parts that may or may not be samples? Either way the minimalist spoken parts repeat and clip in such a way that they feel more like another musical layer, less about what they’re saying and more about the way they work with the slowly building, bubbling and beguiling electronica to create an atmosphere of wonder.
