Wordless Wednesdays

Wordless Wednesdays is our column where we spotlight the best new instrumental tracks.

Today we have not one, but two thousand instrumental tracks for you. Wait, that’s not right, we have two. Just two but two are all you need when they’re this good. Check out the latest from Xena Glas and lostlemming after the jump.

Ok, not strictly instrumental as the first thing you hear (other than footsteps) is someone singing, BUT they’re not singing words (that we can tell) and so we think it counts. “To the A” by Xena Glas merges those unintelligible Sigur Ros-esque vocals with percolating synths and found sounds to create a sound that is both expansive and intimate at the same time. For some reason whenever we listen to it we think of the phrase “interdimensional womb” so take from that what you will, or better yet just hit play and come up with your own catchphrase.

“A Better Word For Ascension” by lostlemmings just dropped but we can’t help but think of spring when we listen to it. Why? Well because it comes roaring in like a lion with bombastic guitars before revealing it’s soft little lamb side with lovely and sweeping strings. It’s a bit of an epic coming in at 7:33 (well maybe not an epic for instrumental post rock, but you get it) and in that time we get a few go arounds of the old push and pull of loud and quiet, each time a different take on the melodic motif running throughout. It’s a big song in many ways and none of those ways are bigger than the overall sense of grandeur it leaves you with.
