Rearview Mirror is our annual look back at the year in music from our friends in and around the business. Musicians, managers, roadies, superfans, bloggers etc..
Rearview Mirror – Ha Ha Tonka
Where the Bus Pass Took Us
While homebodies by nature, we do regularly muster the single malt courage to go out into the world and experience music in the flesh, and we document these excursions in Where the Bus Pass Took Us.
Last night we journeyed out to our favorite music venue in town, The Bishop, to catch Elba favorites Ha Ha Tonka, and as we were taught to share, we captured a few songs on video for your enjoyment. Speaking of enjoyment, we enjoyed last night’s $3 pints special a little bit, and it shows in our camera work. Our apologies. For being so awesome.
Where the Internet Took Us
How much do we love Ha Ha Tonka? So much that we’ll break our hard and fast rule of not embedding Vimeo clips (why? because they always embed in this tiny bullshit size and no matter what we do we can’t get them to embed larger – that’s why) and post this, their official music video for “Usual Suspects” from their brilliant new release Death of a Decade. Check out DoaD here, and check out our previous HHT love here.
Tuesday Tip-Off: Ha Ha Tonka
Yeah, we know it’s Monday, but Ha Ha Tonka‘s Death of a Decade was going to be our tip-off tomorrow when we were tipped-off ourselves to this little tidbit of info.
SXSWland Tales – Aaron Distler
We didn’t go to SXSW this year, but a lot of people we know did. We’ve thrown out the invitation for them to document their experiences here, in a little segment we’re calling SXSWland Tales.
This Austin experience recap comes from PE bff Aaron Distler of the band Heypenny.
Tuesday Tip-Off: Heypenny
Can it be a tip-off if we’ve talked about the band several times before? Who cares? Heypenny has a new album coming out next week and a tour to support it, so we want to make sure you know about it. Check out our review and hear the first single below.
Rearview Mirror – Irene Yuen
Just as love knows no boundaries, neither do our 2010 in musical reviews recognize the paltry calendar year. Ain’t no mountain high enough, ain’t no final month of the year long enough to stop our love.
Today’s late but still timely review comes from Irene Yuen who starts her recap off with this statement:
“Why I was asked to participate in this, I still have no idea, as I have neither Rock nor Roll in my body, but because Postcard Elba asked me, I was more than happy to oblige.”
The reason we asked is because Irene is a straight up super-fan of the most inspiring heights. She is known to regularly drive thousands of miles to catch all the west coast dates of her favorite acts. She loves music and we love that she loves music. So that’s why we asked her. Check out the objects of her 2010 obsessions below.
Postcard from Ha Ha Tonka
Our good friends Ha Ha Tonka sent us a postcard from whence they just wrapped recording their future masterpiece. Check out the personal message and current tour dates below.
